Holidaymakers welcomed at the MIMIZAN Intercommunal Tourist Office. One of the very first seaside resorts on the Landais coast, between the forest and the ocean, warmly invites you to enjoy a fun-packed day discovering our historical heritage in the company of our qualified guides.
10.00 a.m. :
Guided tour of the PAPETERIES DE GASCOGNE site. One of the largest in Europe, this paper factory produces around 500 tonnes of brown paper a day. A film will be shown about the company and the management of the forest in a special room with comfy seats. After a coach trip, punctuated by a number of fascinating stop-offs along the way to see several sights, including a paper machine complete with reels weighing over 8 tonnes, you’ll go home knowing all about the wrapping paper we use everyday.
12.00 p.m. :
Because gastronomy is synonymous with enjoyment, a selection of restaurant owners invite you to sample their specialities.
2.00 p.m. :
Guided tour of the bell-tower gate of MIMIZAN. Abbey. After many years of restoration, this building, dating from the late 12th century, included in the U.N.E.S.C.O. world heritage list, has just been re-opened to the public. It presents a magnificent collection of Romanesque sculptures, akin to a medieval comic strip, whose colours have survived the centuries remarkably well. Tour of museographic area. Film show presenting in a few brief images what the priory was like during its days of splendour.
4.30 p.m. :
Your day trip will be rounded off by a tour of the Ailes monument in MIMIZAN with stunning views of the ocean.
